Kevin shows how you could use a ruler, but it would be tricky to make sure it was accurate. So he shows the easy way he’d “cheat” to do it.
On a piece of paper, trace carefully around the oval. Cut out the oval pattern carefully and confirm that it is the same size as the piece of metal, wood, etc.
Now fold the oval lengthwise (top to bottom), then crosswise (across). In as small a cut as you can, snip the point of the pattern.
Unfold the pattern, and place it carefully on your oval. Use a marking pen through the hole you snipped in the center and leave a mark to indicate the center. Remove your paper pattern.
Now use a center punch on your oval, then drill it out to the diameter you need.
Sometimes it’s the simplest way that works!
