In answer to a question from a Facebook fan, Kevin has set up two pieces of 1/8″ hot rolled steel plate. He’s butted them together so he can weld the joint.
Kevin jumps right into it, showing how the puddle forms. You can see it right underneath the arc. He backs off the pedal slightly and the puddle retreats, then he steps on the pedal and gives it more amperage. The puddle grows – you can see the red glow. Now it’s time to feed!
Then it’s dab one, dab one, dab one – it’s just timing.
Then Kevin stops by reversing the torch and lowering the amperage to help reduce cratering in the metal.
