As more and more filaments become available, I have an increasingly dizzying array of options for my sculptures.

The latest, though, is the most eye-popping of all so far!

When I got an offer to purchase 3 mm filament in 15-pound spools from a Chinese filament maker, I jumped on it.  One of the challenges of my 8-foot-tall Cerberus 3D Gigante 3D printer, which can print up to 4 feet tall and 34″ in diameter, is having to change spools because of the sheer amount of filament it can use. Of course, despite planning, that spool change almost always happens at 2 a.m.

So the thought of a 15 pound spool made me, well, drool!

One of the types of filament available is something called Color Change filament. I’ve played with filament that changes color with heat and, while cool, found it rather subtle.

This stuff is anything but subtle!
