Like artworks including Autumn Mobius (the first in this series) and mobiles like First to Fall and Pixie Dust, this nature-inspired sculpture celebrates the color, form and movement of leaves.

Ode to Joy has more than 200 hand shaped leaves.

Each leaf is hand painted (see second video).

With its aesthetic and structural requirements, this has been the most challenging sculptures yet.

The main image shows Ode to Joy just after installation in its final site but before the leaves are scattered beneath it.

The title honors the fourth movement in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which the patron calls “one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.”

The third video shows the first branch painted.
