The sculpture and horticultural garden in New York that features 16 of Kevin’s sculptures has a number of artworks made of exotic stones including his kinetic sculpture Optunia Petra (https://kevincaron.com/art/opuntia-petra/).
Kevin’s next project involves celebrating one of the Earth’s most dramatic stones: pyrite. Sometimes called “fools gold,” pyrite frequently forms near-perfect cubes, octahedrons and pyritohedrons. Most pyrite cubes do not exceed 1″ on each side.
The title of the stone and sculpture, Pyrite, which pays tribute to the stone, is derived from the Greek word pyr (fire), because striking it against metal or hard stone actually produces sparks.
The sculpture is designed to sit close to a free-flowing rock cascading fountain and requires the creation of larger renditions of pyrite cubes, the largest of which is 16″ on each side.
