Based on the success of a smaller version, Kevin created a larger truncated octahedron.
Getting every ball and post exactly plumb is key for this sort of sculpture.
The five-sided pedestal is separate from the sculpture itself, which balances on the stacked hemispheres.

Now titled Supercharged Particle, this sculpture is beginning a new phase of its life as a kinetic sculpture. Although the color of the globe may appear the same, when it spins, it will change color. (You can see glints of the color even when it is still because of the rounded surfaces.) The video shows some of the magic, but it is really when the light shines on it in person that it shares its purples and blues.
