SOLO SHOW ‘MICRO/MACRO’ OPENS IN CHANDLER FRIDAY, SEPT. 6
The fall season kicks off with Kevin’s solo show “”Micro/Macro: The Sculptural Art of Kevin Caron”” at the Chandler Center for the Arts. It opens with a free reception on Friday, September 6.
“”This is a very different sort of show for me,”” observes Kevin. “”Micro/Macro”” explores his sculptures’ relationship with scale. “”Some people will look at a sculpture like Charged Particle (left) and see a molecule, while others will see a universe,”” he says. Scale of materials is also examined in the show.
Charged Particle is one of several sculptures that will debut in the show. Also appearing for the first time in public are the nine-foot-tall sculpture The Runner, Cosmography and the “”gang”” of Street Urchins.
Please join Kevin for the opening reception on Friday, September 6 from 6 – 9 p.m. The show runs through Saturday, October 26. Chandler Center for the Arts is located at 250 N. Arizona Avenue at the corner of Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue. Click here for a map.
‘THERMAL PHX’ CLOSES SOON; NEW TWO-PERSON SHOW AT MONORCHID OPENS IN JANUARY
Many hundreds of art lovers have seen Kevin’s work in the show “”Thermal PHX”” at downtown Phoenix’s MonOrchid gallery since it opened nearly three months ago.
“”Things are happening in downtown Phoenix during the summer,”” says Justin Germain, MonOrchid curator. “”This longer show still makes sense, though, during our dog days.””
You still have time to catch “”Thermal PHX,”” a group show, before it closes on August 30.
More of Kevin’s work will be on view at MonOrchid after the holidays at a two-person show, “”Elevation: The Paintings of Cyndy Carstens and Sculpture of Kevin Caron.”” Elevation runs Friday, January 17 – Friday, February 28. “”I’m really excited about doing a show with Cyndy,”” says Kevin. Stay tuned for more information this show.

LUXE DUBS KEVIN A STYLE MAKER
High-end home magazine Luxe is featuring Kevin as a Style Maker in its fall issue, which hits the newsstands this October. According to Luxe, Style Makers are “”artisans and designers who are transforming the design industry.””
“”It’s nice to be considered in that light,”” observes Kevin.
While Kevin’s work has been featured in the magazine before, writer Jennifer Quail conducted an in-depth interview for her article. Kevin says, “”I’m looking forward to the story myself!””
UNDER WAY IN THE STUDIO
With The Runner completed – just click on its name to see it just after it got its patina – Kevin has returned to working on his sound sculpture base and begun a new project.
“”My fascination with geometric forms that challenge the eye led me to the form an untitled sculpture of a 4-cube tesseract, so I’m making a run at it,”” he says. The piece started with four squares, which he could create on his own. “”I estimate I’ll need three other people – six more hands – to put the next parts of this one together.””
Fortunately, Kevin has had a number of interns, who have been learning various techniques from Kevin.
A new contemporary sculptural railroad spike sculpture is also under way, something to watch out for on the Web site.
The new “”gang”” of Street Urchins have gotten their finish but await their formal photo …. See them on their own page before they received their finish.
Finally, in his Home & Garden line, Kevin also continues to work on several new ocotillos as well as some bugs for the Hidden In The Hills studio tour in the Cave Creek, Carefree and north Scottsdale area this winter.
You can always see what Kevin is working on in the Works in Progress section of the Web site – we update it often.
