OXx by Kevin CaronOXx

Collection of Janet Green
Phoenix, Arizona

Onyx
42" x 50" x 20", 1800 pounds
2005

This lovely piece of onyx caught Kevin's eye at a favorite quarry. The white layers are marshmallow white, layered with carmel and slender maroon levels. The water lights up the rock.

Intriguingly, OXx seems made for a fountain. The hole in its top, which Kevin believes may be the tail end of a blasting drill hole, taps into several layers in the rock. the water flows out of the main vent (see below) as well as other vents around the body of the rock (see below).

Installed in an outdoor pond, OXx is in a rare, nearly natural setting, where koi swim below it, and irises and elephant ear gather 'round. There are several seating areas where people can sit by the pond, whether they are simply enjoying a contemplative moment or like to hear the soft rush of the water and watch the fish swim.
