A pivotal moment arrives. It’s time for Kevin to move the sculpture Wherever You Go, There You Are from its horizontal position to standing so he can weld the panels he couldn’t yet reach before. At the point of its move from horizontal to vertical, the sculpture, which will weigh about 1,000 pounds when complete, weighed about 600 pounds. This proved to be a real challenge. Kevin’s gantry crane, which could have done the job, is not tall enough to lift the sculpture to standing. Extending the legs on the gantry crane meant it could no longer move through the building’s 9.8-foot-tall doors. In this video, you watch as he lifts the sculpture using two engine hoists. About two-thirds of the way through the video there’s a little excitement, but other than that, the raising went flawlessly. Click here to see more more about this sculpture.
